We all complain about how short a shelf-life books have these days. In the bookshop for a couple of weeks (that's if you are lucky!) and then returned - brief day in the sun over. So here's a story to encourage everyone!
The first book that I sold when I became an agent twenty three years ago was a novel called LABELS by Harold Carlton. It was a giant success in America selling over a million copies. Two decades later the author went back to novel writing and HEAVEN HELL AND MADEMOISELLE was published last week by Orion. And now we have a contract with them to bring back LABELS for a whole new audience (many of whom will have been learning to read when it was first published.) A good story never dates and this one looks as though it will never die!
