After a really agonizing auction for UK rights, where there was so much enthusiasm one simply wanted all the publishers to buy it, David Fickling of David Fickling Books has acquired rights in Andy Mulligan's new novel TRASH. In the US (whre he publishes under the Random House umbrella as he does here) he has made a pre-emptive bid and the book will come out simultaneously in the US and US in autumn 2010.
Rights have already been sold in Spain and Finland and auctions are currently going on across Europe.
The worldwide enthusiasm for this incredible novel - aimed at 12+ age group but, as David Fickling describes it, an 'all read', is thrilling. It will undoubtedly be the childrens' book of the season and will catapult Andy into the premier league of childrens' authors.
TRASH is publishing gold dust. It is a thrilling adventure story that can be read at one long sitting, beautifully written, with unforgettable characters and completely original. I think it is one of those rare novels that will still be enjoyed in twenty years time.
